The President’s 2013 Budget

All agree that the President’s budget recommendations for Fiscal Year 2013 will go nowhere in this Congress, but the just-released budget does signal the President’s priorities, a goal that was also furthered by the issuance of a fact sheet entitled, “An Economy Built to Last and Security for the LGBT Community.”

“We carry the scars of the HIV holocaust and the smell of the closet”

So says Amy Rolnick, 59, in an interview with The Miami Herald article, “Golden years?  Many older gays and lesbians worry about their futures.”

Rolnick also said, “It’s easy to talk about the progress, but no matter where I go or what I do, I’m always gauging how people may react.”  The reporter, Ana Veciana-Suraez, noted that two lesbian boomers she contacted refused to be interviewed, with one saying, “I don’t hide it and I’m not embarrassed, but I think it [coming out in The Miami Herald] would hurt business.”
